76ers convert Justin Edwards to standard contract
The 76ers on Sunday made official the conversion of Justin Edwards’ two-way contract to a standard deal, something rendered a formality given the undrafted rookie’s recent play.
The Sixers announced the deal officially before Sunday’s loss in Milwaukee.
Edwards was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Kentucky. The Imhotep Charter grad has been excellent for the Sixers, averaging 8.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists. He’s provided key matchup defense from the wing and played big minutes, especially as a veteran roster has been ravaged by injuries.
Edwards has been immovable in the rotation. Sunday was his eighth start in 22 games. He’s played 20 or more minutes in each of his last 16 games. He’s shooting 37.5 percent from 3-point range.
